TELALI SPRING SERIES 2009

CARP R US MATCH FISHING by Terry Screen

The 9th and penultimate round of the TELALI spring Series was fished at Beniarres on the 16th April, the water levels are even higher than our last visit with at least a foot more water.

The temperatures are also up slightly but still the fish did not respond, for my self it was a day I don’t want to remember I went 5+ hours without a bite, but at the next peg Paul (Poco Loco) Baxter took the honours which included a Carp of 3.200kg. Well done.

1st Paul (Poco Loco) Baxter fishing pole and paste with 7.270kg

2nd Bob (The Major) Rafferty fishing the feeder maggot and corn with 5.390kg

3rd Stuart (Flying Officer) Thompson fishing pole and maggot with 1.820kg.

The match on the 23rd April is the 4th round of The Roundtown News Challenge Trophy and the following week on the 30th April will be the final of the TELALI Spring Series, these and all other details are available from the Match Secretary Terry Screen on 965328368.

TELALI SPRING SERIES 2009

CARP R US MATCH REPORT by Terry Screen

The venue was at Argos for the 8th round of the TELALI Spring Series on the 9th April and it was the first time we had fished there since joining the Federation, it worked out very well having the flags at each end of the match length as none of the matchmen had problems with other fishermen pushing in between them as use to happen.

The temperature is still very low, only 5 degrees on arrival at the Lake, also the water is the highest level I have seen in the past 7 years and it has started to colour up, perhaps this will kill off the blanket weed which extends out along the bottom for at least 7 metres

1st Paul (Poco Loco) Baxter fishing the pole and paste with 12.830kg

2nd Ian (Irish Wizard) Delzeil fishing the feeder with 8.310kg

3rd Ian (from the darkside) Haughton fishing pole feeder and corn with 6.140kg.

The next and penultimate round on the 16th April is at Beniarres, meet 8.00am at the monument.

TELALI SPRING SERIES 2009

CARP R  US MATCH RESULTS by Terry Screen

The rain had finally stopped for the 7th round of the TELALI Spring Series on Thursday 2nd April.

The River Segura was at its highest for several years, and from Rojales to Guardamar the river has been dredged and the banks have had there annual reed cutting leaving no hiding places for the fish.

This has resulted in the fish being washed into the old river bed and with the water levels there now subsiding, the fish were left stranded in pools were eventually they would die.

So Bill (The Master) Read of Rod and Reels Club and myself   organised a rescue mission with a dozen fishermen armed with buckets etc and returned the fish to the river.

Fish up to 6lb in weight and approximately 600 plus were returned to safe waters.

Thanks to the lads for all there help.

Results of the Match was as follows

1st George (Victor Meldrew) Fogg fishing pole and maggot with 7.410kg

2nd myself Terry (Swing em) Screen fishing pole feeder and maggot with 6.680kg

3rd Bob (The Major) Rafferty fishing feeder and maggot with 4.250kg.

The next match on the 9th April is at Argos; meet at the Hotel at 8.00am.

These and all other details are available from the Match Secretary Terry Screen on 965328368.

TELALI SPRING SERIES 2009

CARP R US MATCH RESULTS by Terry Screen

The 6th round of the Spring League TELALI Cup was fished at Murcia on the 26th March.

With the new system and the water already pre-booked through the Spanish Federation, there was no need for the usual early start.

The water temperatures are now rising and the algae on the bottom is breaking away which is not causing any problems at the moment, so the fishing is now improving with only 2 of the 18 anglers dry netting this week.

1st George (Victor Meldrew) Fogg fishing the pole and bread punch with 13.440kg

2nd Den (The Stick) Pick fishing pole and maggot with 8.600kg

3rd Paul (Poco Loco) Baxter fishing pole and bread punch with 7.460kg

The next match on the 2nd April has been changed from Pedrera as it is flooded at present and will now be fished on the match stretch at Benijofar

Carp R Us Members would also like to express there deepest sympathy and condolences to Tony Medlicott whose wife recently lost her battle with Cancer.

TELALI SPRING SERIES 2009

CARP R US MATCH RESULTS by Terry Screen

The 5th round of the Spring League TELALI Cup was fished at Beniarres on the 19th March.

The water level is now even higher than it was on our previous visit; there were no pegs at all on the right side of the Dam with pegs only available on the big Bay.

On leaving home it was 10degrees on the cars thermometer, as we travelled up the mountain to Alcoy it had dropped to minus 1degree and everywhere was white over with frost and you couldn’t see the Lake for fog with the visibility down to 40 yards, but it soon lifted and turned into a beautiful warm sunny day.

1st Colin (Wish) Prior with 4.300kg fishing feeder and maggot

2nd Dave (The Paste) Hill with 3.940kg fishing pole and paste

3rd Paul (Poco Loco) Baxter with 3.040kg fishing feeder and pole.

The next Match is at Murcia on the 26th March; meet at the Car Park in Murcia at 8.00am

Thursday 5th March was the Third round of the TELALI Spring League fished on the “Sweet Water Canal”.

What a day!! Gail force winds and heavy rain, March really came in like a lion for this the 3rd round match of the Spring Series, let‘s hope it goes out like a lamb.

The match was fished at Sweet Water, which was bleak and barren with all the reeds having been cut down, so there was nowhere to shelter.

The banks have been cut down and all the bottles and rubbish removed from Sweet Water, they filled up 2 skips with all the bottles and rubbish etc, Let’s hope it will stay that way, PLEASE take any rubbish at your pegs away with you, always keep a plastic bag in your holdall for this purpose.

All the dates have now been confirmed by the Murcian Federation, and the first match on the 12th March will be at Blanca, the draw to take place at 8.00am in the Café by the Garage.

TELALI SPRING SERIES 2009

Report by Terry Screen

Thursday 19th February saw the 1st round of the TELALI spring series, and this was fished at Beniarres.

On arrival the temperature was minus 1 degree, and everywhere was white over with frost (That's cold). It soon warmed up as the sun rose, enough for one hardy fisherman Colin (Wish) to take his shirt off.

The match was fished at the dam end of the Lake because the Match length is out due to high water levels, which reduced the number of pegs available.

Paul (Poco Loco) Baxter was 1st once again with 3.270kg casting 60yds

2nd Stuart (Flying Officer) Thompson with 1.100kg who once again drew the Golden Peg

3rd Bob (The Major) Rafferty with 0.630kg,

4th Terry (Swing em) Screen with 0.340kg all fishing maggot and feeder and no one else caught.

The Round Town News Interclub 3rd round Match is on the 25th February and the 2nd round of the Spring League is on the 26th February, the venue to be confirmed.

These and all other details are available from the Match Secretary Terry Screen on 965328368.

ROUND TOWN NEWS CHALLENGE CUP

Report by Dave Hoare

This competition has been very kindly sponsored by the Round Town News. This was the 4th round in this 6 series event. The match was held on the Rio Segura and consisted of two teams of 12 a side. Some fish were still in the weeds, cleaning themselves after spawning, which kept the weights down.

There were only 2 dry nets, but over half the field lost big fish. The results were decided on points derived from 4 sections of 6 people. The following were the section winners:

A section    Stuart (Flying Officer) Thompson, with 2.860 kilos.
B section  Austin (Cambridge) Vieth, with 2.660 kilos.
C section    Bob (The Majo) Rafferty, with 4.380 kilos.
D section   George (Victor Meldrew) Fogg, with 7.720 kilos.

Total points on the day:

Rods and Reels    41 1/2 points
Carpr’us                 40 1/2 points

Accumulative points:

Rods and Reels     160 1/2 points
Carpr’us                 134 1/2 points

GARY SMITH CHALLENGE CUP

This was held on the Sweetwater and consisted of 2 teams of 6 a side. Again, the outcome was decided on points; this was 2 sections of 6 anglers. The fishing again was patchy with the fish here again cleaning themselves in the weeds. Pete Kerr, who was struggling for a bite, decided to explore the reasons why, and went for a swim to try to resolve the problem; the only outcome was he got very wet and still no more bites.

Section winners as follows:

A section   John (The Boss) Brightling, with 3.5 kilos
B section   Roy (Quiz Man) Buttress, with 1.70 kilos.

Rods and Reels    21 points
Carpr’us                12 points

Accumulative points

Rods and Reels    59 points
Carpr’us                17 points

Round Town News Challenge Cup

Report by Dave Hoare

This week was the 5th in the series of the Round Town News Challenge Cup, very kindly sponsored by Round Town News, held at Blanca Lake. The day was warm with very little wind, however as always at Blanca, the fishing is a struggle for big fish. Bleak were in abundance all over, so most people managed to get a few fish for points. As always, the competition is decided on points, with 4 sections of 6 anglers per section. The following are the section winners:

·         Section A 1-6  Dave (Yours Truly) Hoare, fishing the pole using pellet with 4.88 kilos.

·         Section B 7-12  Doug (Welsh Goldminer) Hornblow, fishing the pole and feeder, using pellet with 9.74 kilos.

·         Section C  13-18  Bob (The Major) Rafferty, fishing the feeder using paste with 6.60 kilos.

·         Section D  19-24  Terry (Swing ‘Em) Screen, fishing the pole using maggot with 3.86 kilos.

Points on the day as follows:

·         Rods and Reels  43 points

·         Carpr’us              38 points

Accumulative points to date:

·         Rods and Reels  203.5 points

·         Carpr’us    172.5 points

With one match left in the series, Carpr’us will have to pull out all the stops to win.

As a note for anyone fishing Blanca and thought it to be Terrapin free,  I can confirm that they are there, as I caught one during the match.

GARY SMITH CHALLENGE SHIELD

SUMMER SERIES 2009

Best Eight from Ten Matches to count for final positions

 Report by Paul Baxter

The 10th and Final match of the clubs 2009 Summer Series was fished at Pedrera on Thursday July 23rd. 14 anglers competed

High temperatures, strong winds, millions of flies and more rubbish than you would ever see at a council tip made for an exciting finale. It really is unacceptable for anglers to leave all their rubbish at the side of the water.

I personally had another disaster and now have 13 hours fishing at Pedrera for 3 bites.
The results on the day were,
1st. Ian Dalzell.  13.120 Kgs. Carp, Barbel and Bleak on the pole.
2nd. Austin Veith. 7.360 Kgs.  Carp, Barbel and Bleak on the pole.
3rd. George Fogg   6.980 Kgs.  Barbel on the pole.
With the Summer League now finished the final league standings are as follows.
1st.  Paul Baxter       110 points.
2nd.  Austin Veith       92 points.
3rd   Bob Elms           80 points
4th   Stuart Thompson    75 points.
5th.  Barry Homer        66 points.
The Evening Series starts on Thursday with the first match being fished in the Town centre at Murcia.

 Report by Paul Baxter

The 9th and penultimate match of the clubs 2009 Summer Series was fished at Benniares on Thursday July 16th. 8 anglers competed

The long drive proved to be worthwhile with everyone catching fish and if it wasn't for the near gale force winds the weights on the day would without a doubt have been much higher.
The water levels have dropped since the last visit and access to most areas is now possible.
The results on the day were,
1st. Paul Baxter.  18.880 Kgs. Carp on the pole using paste and corn.
2nd. Austin Veith. 16.540 Kgs. Carp on the pole using paste and corn.
3rd. Bob Elms      16.300 Kgs. Carp on the Feeder and Waggler using corn and maggot. The 10th and Final Round will be fished on July 23rd at Pedrera, the draw on the bank at 7-30 am, If anyone is interested in joining Carp R Us please contact Colin Brinkley tel 966712351 or to contact him by email rojales1@gmail.

Report by Paul Baxter

The 7th round of the Summer League was fished at Pedrera on the 2nd July 2009, 13 anglers competed

The series is fished over 10 matches with the best 8 results to count. This was the clubs first visit to Pedrera this year as the high water levels have made access virtually impossible. The high water levels have assisted in removing all the rubbish that was littered all around the water last year and hopefully all anglers can assist in attempting to keep the water clear of litter this year by removing all there rubbish and taking it home to be binned.
The fishing itself was mixed on the day with the pre match opinion being that the better pegs would be on the West side of the peninsula as the high afternoon winds making the East side too difficult to fish.
As is usually the case this was to be proved wrong on the day with the Barry Homer being the run away winner despite being drawn with the wind blowing straight at him.
The results on the day were.
1st Place. Barry Homer. 18.300 kgs. Fishing the long pole with pellet and hemp.
2nd Place. Paul Baxter.  6.460 kgs. Fishing the short pole with maggot.
3rd Place. Mick Hill.    4.640 kgs. Fishing the feeder with sweet corn.

The 6th round of the Summer League was fished at Argos on the 18th June 2009, 16 anglers turned up at the venue to compete.

There is still a lot of blanket weed on the bottom, with big clumps of it floating on the surface as it breaks away.

The 5th round of the Summer League was fished on the match stretch at Benijofar on the 11th June 2009 on what turned out to be another hot summer’s day for the 11 anglers that turned out to compete. Many fish were hooked and lost to the bamboo cane that is growing prolifically in and under the water, lots of anglers fishing the pole lost tackle in the bamboo and one had two sections of pole broken by one of these hard fighting carp taking him into this hazardous growth.

First on the day with 9.320kgs was Barry Homer, in second place with 7.340kgs was Austin Vieth and in third place was Dennis Pick with 5.300kgs

The 4th round of the Summer League was fished on the Eden Canal on the 4th June 2009 on what turned out to be a hot summer’s day, and with a lot fewer mosquitos’s than we experienced on our last visit to this venue. The wind was blowing against the flow of the river, making things a little difficult for the anglers fishing to the opposite bank with pole, especially with all the bamboo growth in the river

A Joint first on the day with Stuart Thompson and Paul Baxter weighing in with the same weights of 7.920kgs, in third place with a creditable weight of 7.280kgs was Austin Vieth.

Pairs Competition 2009

 Report by Paul Baxter

Thursday 6th August 2009 saw the annual Pairs competition fished at Argos with 10 pairs competing.

With the weather being typical August, hot and hotter and the water levels lower than we have seen for a while it was anyone’s guess how good the fishing would be. As things turned out we had a very exciting match with everyone catching fish and less than 2 Kilos splitting the first 3 places.

The results were as follows.
1st. George Fogg and Kevin Mortimer    43.200kgs

2nd. Ian Dalzell and Roy Buttress.        41.950kgs

The Barbara Wookey Charity Match 2009

The Barbara Wookey Charity Match was fished at Argos on Thursday the 27th August 2009, 16 Anglers competed on what was a very hot day

Catches were still down on those being taken at this time last year, the fact that this venue is now being fished three times a week by local Costa Blanca Clubs and sometimes by the Murcia Federation Clubs I’m sure has a large bearing on these results, plus the fact that a lot of fish are still being taken for the table every day.

The winner of the match was George Fogg with 33.200kgs,

Second was Ian Dalzell with 24.700kgs

Third was Stuart Thompson with 23.220kgs
